Information

Character Name: Minatsuki Takami
Canon: Deadman Wonderland
Canon Point: Chapter 9
Background/History:
Miss Swears-a-Lot: Minatsuki Takami
Amusement Park of Doom: Dysfunction Junction

Personality:
Minatsuki is a young girl with several layers to her personality, each one being slowly peeled off during her stay in Deadman Wonderland. When Ganta Igarashi encounters Minatsuki for the first time, she is an extremely gentle, seemingly sincere, and shy girl, terrified of the place she's in. She takes solace in her flowers, once commenting that since her primroses are in bloom, it means an endless love. This timid young girl says she is terrified of Deadman Wonderland, sick of her life inside the prison and sick of the way the Deadmen are treated. She goes on to say that she doesn't want anybody else to get hurt and she doesn't want to get hurt - it isn't fair. Overcome with emotion, she cries on Ganta's shoulder, unable to handle the reality they face.

Gentle Minatsuki shares her thoughts and feelings with Ganta, telling him she is worried about her older brother. Learning about her powers at an early age, she reveals that she never went outside because she was afraid of hurting people, afraid of being a burden to others. She tells Ganta, through tears, that as a result of her personality, her father abused her and her older brother always came to her defense. She concludes this story with the fact that she retaliated with her power.

"I... don't want to use this power. I hate the Carnival Corpse...! I'm sick of hurting people..."

It is later revealed, however, that all of this was a lie.

In reality, Minatsuki Takami is a gifted actor - skilled at both manipulation and lying. She uses this personality to make those around her feel secure and to hide her true, more sadistic nature. The primroses that decorate her room remind her of the day her mother abandoned her in favor of her flowers during the Great Tokyo Earthquake, fueling the resentment and pain that is hidden deep within Minatsuki. Her abandonment is the possible reason behind her actions later in life, behind her propensity to lie, behind her jaded views of the world, and behind her deep seeded anger.

During her Carnival Corpse match with Ganta, she reveals a completely different personality that is much closer to who she actually is. This Minatsuki is a complete 180 from the girl Ganta Igarashi thought he knew. Minatsuki laughs at Ganta's misery, she laughs at him because he fell for her act, and she laughs at his "virgin knight" attitude. "It's fucking disgusting." She uses her victims until they have no further use for her, not caring how they are hurt along the way. She is vulgar, insensitive, psychotic, and even derives sexual pleasure from the look of pain on her victims' faces, especially her older brother, Yoh. She is very open about this, too. If the looks of anguish and pain on the faces of her victims can't get her off, they are worthless in her opinion.

"I love it, that face, I'm gonna cum! My daddy made that face when he died, too!"

During her Carnival Corpse match with Ganta, Minatsuki tells him that there is nobody in the world worth trusting and that she is a shitty liar won't trust anybody. This is true, at the time, and she wants to give everybody their just desserts, not caring how much she maims and abuses others. They deserve it, in her opinion, because the world is a horrible place full of horrible people. There is no reason to trust others - they will all hurt you, in the end. It's not worth it.

Beneath her two extreme personalities, however, lies the real Minatsuki. She was exposed to the cruelties of the world at a very young age, suffering abuse at the hands of her father and abandonment at the hands of her mother, learning to use and abuse her Whip Wing without suffering the consequences. It is clear that Minatsuki is vulnerable, like the girl she initially shows Ganta, but not to that extent. She softens after their match, showing that she does care about the other Deadmen and she does care about her brother. However, despite that softening, it is still extremely difficult for Minatsuki to trust others because the world, after all, is full of liars and hypocrites.

She is still defensive, still angry, and, most importantly, still damaged... and it will take a very long time for her to recover.

Abilities/Powers:
Minatsuki is part of a special group of prisoners called Deadmen. The Deadmen have the ability to manipulate their own blood outside of the body. Each Deadman has what is referred to as a Branch of Sin, and each is unique to that particular individual. The Branch of Sin is most commonly used as a weapon and can take the form of an object, like a whip, blade, bomb, or bullet.

Minatsuki's Branch of Sin is called "Whip Wing," and takes the form of whips appear to be extensions of her hair. The Whip Wing can not only deliver aggressive and quick blows, but it can also restrain an opponent. To achieve this, Minatsuki rips one of her earrings from her ear, forcing herself to bleed. The only limit to her ability is the amount of blood in her body, which is approximately 4 liters. To preserve her blood, she attacks her opponent in a series of fast attacks so that they quickly bleed out from multiple wounds.

Branches of Sin can combine with other Branches of Sin to make a stronger joint attack. Seen in chapter 33, Minatsuki's Whip Wing combines with Chaplin Sukegawa's "Peacock Peak" to form the "Love Whip." This combination produces a larger whip complete with embedded spikes. This combined Branch of Sin is much more powerful than the normal Branch of Sin.

Items/Weapons:
1. A pot of primroses
2. A juice box
3. A change of clothes
